Led by some of Baltimore’s best and brightest activists, artists, educators, and leaders, the 6th Annual Neighborhood Institute: Love Where You Live is a day-long series of FREE workshops focused on educating City residents about what they can do to help build and strengthen vibrant urban communities. Hosted at the Inn at the Colonnade on W. University Pkwy, this event attracts over 200 attendees each year.

Below is a sampling of workshops that we will be offering this year. Space is limited so register today! We will be adding more workshops in the coming weeks.

Community Art: Decor helps make a house a home, and the same is true of a neighborhood! Architect Sergio Martinez of Greenmount West will discuss strategies for working as a community to comfortabl-ize your neighborhood.

Fundraising/Grantwriting: You’ve got great ideas for your neighborhood, but who’s going to pay for them? Learn how to fundraise those ideas into reality from Dion Cartwright, Program Officer at the Baltimore Community Foundation and Tyson Smith, Director of GHCC”s Partnerships and Business Services.

Social Media: The best neighborhoods are organized, in this day of social media staying organized can be confusing! Medfield resident Sam Armacost shares her expertise with a new and exciting neighborhood networking tool, NextDoor.

Community Development: Buying a house can be a full-time job; from finding a home to applying for incentives and financing your new residence, the options can leave your head spinning. Learn about community-minded development aimed at building neighborhoods and providing great, affordable houses to people like you from Seawall Development Company and Telesis Corporation, and then learn about the variety of incentives available to homebuyers in the city from GHCC’s on Real Estate Manager, André Stone.

Biking in Baltimore: Whether you”re an avid biker, interested in biking more often, or simply curious about biking and bike safety for cyclists and drivers alike, this workshop is intended to educate all about the ins and outs of biking in Baltimore. Join Timothy Barnett of Baltimore Bike Party and Chris Merriam of Bikemore to learn more about what”s being done to promote biking in Baltimore as both a fun activity and practical transportation option.

Neighborhood Leader’s Forum: Join your fellow neighborhood leaders from around north central Baltimore to share and learn best practices on how to build community.
